What’s not to love about the Lincoln Park Zoo? It’s open year-round, is absolutely free, and makes for a great family outing or casual date. Here are some must-see exhibits at this awesome Chicago zoo.
HELEN BRACH PRIMATE HOUSE
You’ll find all kinds of creatures monkeying around in the Helen Brach Primate House, which features black howler monkeys, crowned lemurs, white-cheeked gibbons (pictured above), and more. The white-cheeked gibbons in particular like to play in the big outdoor playground, especially in the warmer weather.
REGENSTEIN CENTER FOR AFRICAN APES
At 29,000 square feet, the Regenstein Center for African Apes offers plenty of space for the chimpanzees and Western lowland gorillas that live there. And really, is there anything cuter than a baby gorilla?
Watch the Chilean flamingoes and swan geese play outside in the Waterfowl Lagoon, which offers a nice breath of fresh air in the summertime. In the winter, they head inside to the toasty Flamingo Habitat.
KOVIAR LION HOUSE
What trip to the zoo would be complete without taking a look at the lions? For this, head to the Koviar Lion House, which is home to not only African lions, but also tigers, lynx, jaguars, a red panda, and more.
Kids will love Farm-in-the-Zoo, an exhibit which brings a slice of farm life to the big city. There are tons of hands-on activities and opportunities to get up close and personal with pigs, cows, rabbits, goats, and more.
