We all know that MasterChef judge and James Beard-nominated Graham Elliot’s restaurant, Graham Elliot Bistro, is a Chicago hotspot, but have you ever wondered where he likes to eat? Here are some of his favorite restaurants in the Windy City.
GT Fish & Oyster
GT Fish & Oyster is a blend of modern and traditional with a rotating menu of small plates. Everything here is tailored to the seafood experience, from the wine menu to the beer selection comprised of local picks to the specially-tailored cocktail list. Elliot may be a bit biased, as Chef Giuseppe Tentori is his son’s godfather, but the lobster rolls here don’t lie–for seafood, this spot is second to none.
Molecular gastronomy is the focus at Alinea, exploring the ways ingredients change when they’re combined and cooked certain ways. In order to eat at Alinea in Lincoln Park or Next in the West Loop, you have to buy tickets on their website ahead of time, but it’s more than worth it. This is Elliot’s top choice for fine dining, and he loves that it’s an “edible performance.”
Glazed and Infused
This funky donut shop offers a wide variety of donut flavors, from the classic to the wacky. They sell some excellent coffee to go along with your donut, or you can get into your coworkers’ good graces by grabbing a box of their Doughnut Holes to go. Elliot uses their doughnuts at his restaurant and is a big fan of the Maple-Bacon Long John.
