This place is a haven for made-from-scratch dishes and smoky mesquite flavor. The drinks are tasty and strong, and it’s an awesome spot to bring a group for a celebration. There’s a line out the door every weekend, and whether you sit on the outdoor patio or inside the colorful, lively inside dining area, you won’t be disappointed.

You can find Uncle Julio’s at 855 W North Ave.

The chalkboard menu here isn’t very large, but the tacos are. You’ll get plenty of bang for  your buck, with tacos at about $2.75 each, and everything is cooked to order and seasoned perfectly. The limonada and horchata are top-notch and tortillas are homemade.

You can find The Big State at 624 N Ashland Ave.
