Before it gets too cold to feel your fingers and you spend your days locked away indoors, get some fresh and check out some of the awe-inspiring changes autumn brings.
Swallow Falls State Park
This is one of our favorite spots to take in the gorgeous colors of fall because they’re juxtaposed by the rush of the Youghiogheny River rapids. The spectacular 53-foot waterfall adds even more majesty to this spot, and there are even trees that are over 360 years old.
In addition to the changing leaves and crisp air, you’ll find wild ponies roaming this quaint island. It’s a great place to bird watch and fish, as there are 37 miles of beach, and the lighthouse is great for photo ops.
New Germany State Park
Situated between Big Savage Mountain and Meadow Mountain, this area is exquisitely picturesque. You can hike 10 miles of trails boasting hemlock forest and winding streams, but the real gem here is the 13 acre lake that reflects all of the beautiful surroundings.
